In principle, every doctoral student attending a doctoral school receives a doctoral scholarship.
A scholarship is awarded to any doctoral student who does not have a doctoral degree in another discipline. However, a person employed at the university as a research assistant or a researcher will not receive a scholarship, unless the employment concerns participation in a research grant. This limitation applies only until a positive interim evaluation, because after this condition is met, applying for a scholarship in the case of a person working as a research assistant will be possible, however, the funds granted will be able to reach a maximum amount of 40% of the monthly scholarship amount.
The minimum amount of doctoral scholarship is (gross):
Higher doctoral scholarship is granted to doctoral students with a disability certificate and/or the certificate to in Article 5 and Article 62 of the Act of 27 August 1997 on professional and social rehabilitation and employment of disabled people. Such a person receives a doctoral scholarship in the amount increased by 30%.
The amount of the minimum basic salary for a professor at a public university specified in the regulation is PLN 7. 210,00
The doctoral scholarship is subject to social security contributions. From the 2019/2020 academic year, the entity running a doctoral school is required to register PhD students for social security. The basis for the assessment of doctoral student social security contributions is the amount of the doctoral scholarship, including acquisition costs and personal income tax. The pension contribution is financed in half by a doctoral student and half by contribution payer (9.76% each). Part of the disability pension contribution in the amount of 1.5% of is financed by the insured, and part in the amount of 6.5% of the base is the contribution payer. The accident contribution is paid in full by the payer, and the voluntary sickness contribution (2.45%) is paid by the doctoral student if he chooses it.
During the suspension of education, to determine the amount of doctoral scholarship, the provisions regarding the determination of maternity allowance shall apply, however, the basis for the calculation of the allowance shall be the amount of the monthly doctoral scholarship that is available on the day of submission of the application for suspension.
It is possible to receive an increased doctoral scholarship.
The basis for submitting an application for an increased doctoral scholarship are scientific achievements documented by scientific publications which have received 100, 140 or 200 points according to the list of scientific journals and peer-reviewed materials from international conferences published by the Minister of Science and Higher Education.
